Dedication

For every woman whose story was ever overlooked, minimized, or forgotten.

For the women whose names were never written,
Whose contributions were never recorded,
Whose brilliance was never acknowledged,
And whose legacies were scattered across time.

For the women who led quietly and those who led boldly.
For the women who shaped communities, cultures, movements, and nations.

For Mary Mitchell Slessor and Rev. Mgbeke George Okore,
Whose stories illuminated the path that led to this institution.

For The University of Edinburgh,
Where this vision was sharpened, nurtured, and transformed into purpose.

And for every woman still waiting to be found —
We are coming for you.

Welcome from the Founder

Founder's Welcome

Welcome to Womencypedia. This institution was created from a simple but profound conviction: The world cannot understand itself without understanding the women who shaped it.

For too long, women's stories have been scattered across archives, whispered in communities, or held quietly in memory. Their contributions have been foundational, yet their narratives remain fragmented.

My journey into this work deepened during my postgraduate studies at The University of Edinburgh, where I learned to interrogate history not only for what it says, but for what it omits. That training sharpened my awareness of the silences surrounding women's lives — silences that demanded to be addressed.

Womencypedia is my response to that demand. It is a global home for women's histories — a place where their stories are gathered, interpreted, and preserved with dignity. Built on rigorous scholarship, ethical storytelling, and cultural truth, this institution exists to restore women to the center of the world's memory.

Whether you are a contributor, editor, researcher, or reader, you are now part of a community committed to honoring women with the fullness they deserve.

Thank you for joining us.
Thank you for believing in this work.
And thank you for helping build an institution that will outlive us all.

Our Origin Story

Womencypedia began long before it had a name. It began with a question: Why is it so hard to find women in the historical record?

Not because they were absent — but because their stories were scattered, buried, fragmented, or held in places where only the determined could reach them.

This truth confronted me fully during my Master's dissertation at The University of Edinburgh, where I researched: "The Historical Development of the Involvement of Women in the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria: An Examination of Mary Mitchell Slessor and Rev. Mgbeke George Okore."

I expected the research to be challenging. I did not expect the silence.

Their contributions were everywhere in practice, but nowhere in writing. Their leadership was felt, but rarely named. Their impact was profound, but their histories were scattered like pieces of a puzzle no one had bothered to assemble.

And yet, despite the difficulty, something beautiful happened. Piece by piece, story by story, the women emerged. Mary Slessor — complex, courageous, culturally embedded. Rev. Mgbeke George Okore — a pioneer whose leadership reshaped the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria.

As I gathered their stories, something shifted in me. The dissertation became a revelation. It proved that when we search for women, we find them — and when we write them, we restore them.

That was the moment Womencypedia was born.

If it was this difficult to gather the stories of two influential women in one denomination, then countless women across cultures and histories were still waiting — unheard, undocumented, unrecognized.

Womencypedia is the institution built to change that.

Vision Statement

Womencypedia envisions a world where women's stories are no longer scattered, forgotten, or diminished, but recognized as essential to humanity's collective memory. We are building the world's most comprehensive, culturally grounded, ethically governed archive of women's lives — an archive that interprets meaning, contextualizes leadership, and reveals the symbolic power women have carried across generations.
